They are just two different topical anesthetics. They are both amides. Dibucaine is a carboxamide and Lidocaine is an acetamide. They function in very similar ways but just have structural differences from a molecular standpoint.
Since all patients respond differently to different drugs, it may be that one would be slightly more effective than the other fo any given patient, or they may both be of equal efficacy. It is just dependent on the patient.
